Dr. Rita Gura, PT, DPT –  completed her undergraduate studies at Millikin University in 2003 where she double majored in Biology/Biochemistry Pre-Physical Therapy with a minor in Psychology.  During her time at Millikin she was appointed President of the Physical Therapy/Occupational Therapy Association where she developed programming to increase the number of students interested in allied health professions while broadening the internship availability to therapy students in central Illinois.

Upon completion of her undergraduate education, she attended Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, IL and graduated in 2005 with her Doctorate in Physical Therapy.

After graduating from Northwestern, she began working for one of the largest outpatient orthopedic physical therapy companies in the Chicagoland area.  Over the years, she was able to develop not only her clinical skills, but also her management skills.  She went on to be the Regional Director of Operations in the Northwest and Western Suburbs.  Dr. Gura also served as the Orthopedic Director for one of the largest home health companies in Chicagoland.

 

In addition to Rita’s passion for orthopedics, she is also a vestibular trained therapist, specializing in vertigo and balance.  She often incorporates vestibular function into her treatment plans which has proven to be beneficial to patients of all types.  Additionally, she has treated numerous student athletes with concussion symptoms and has been able to return them to sport.  As a vestibular therapist, Dr. Gura has also been able to treat vertigo symptoms in work related head or whiplash injuries and has been able to successfully add a vestibular component to work conditioning programs when needed.

Dr. Gura’s broad scope of practice has allowed her to develop a plan of care that is individualized for each patient.  She often creates her own manual techniques based off biomechanical principles and loves seeing the most challenging of cases.
