Dr. Allison Lovering PT, DPT

Dr. Lovering has a B.S. in Kinesiology and a minor in Spanish from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She continued her education and graduated with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from The George Washington University in 2016. While attending GWU, Allison gained experience working in outpatient orthopedics, pediatrics, geriatrics and in the Intensive Care Unit, safely mobilizing patients with acute cardiopulmonary and neurologic conditions. She also had the opportunity to participate in research with the MS Society, carrying out a “Free from Falls” exercise program for individuals diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.

Dr. Lovering is especially interested in improving the lives of patients with balance impairments. Since graduating, Allison earned an additional certification in LSVT Big, a dynamic balance program for patients living with Parkinson’s disease. She has realized the benefits of providing an inclusive exercise program for all patients living with balance difficulties, through her experiences with patients in a variety of settings.

Growing up as an athlete, Allison also learned the important role physical therapists have in returning athletes to sport. Her experiences as a rehabilitation tech and a PT student shaped her passion for working with active patients who sustain orthopedic injuries. These injuries include but are not limited to ankle and foot pathologies, back pain, shoulder pain and post- operative rehabilitation.

Allison’s main goal as a Doctor of Physical Therapy is to understand a patient’s injury within the function of the whole body system, moving beyond symptoms to ensure that the root cause is addressed. With that perspective, Dr. Lovering can determine the best course of treatment for each individual patient through a combination of skilled manual therapy and specific functional exercises.

When she is not in the clinic, Dr. Lovering enjoys traveling, practicing yoga, spending time with friends and family, and cheering on her favorite sports teams, the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Blackhawks.
