Dr. Sondra “Sonnie” Blocki earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Des Moines University in 2013. She earned her Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy at the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in Des Moines, Iowa in 1993. Lymphology Association of North American (LANA) certification is the highest certification obtainable for a lymphedema therapist which she obtained in 2007. She continues to maintain certification through national conferences and continuing education.Dr. Blocki has dedicated her entire career to outpatient physical therapy. She began her career in the Illinois Valley area at St. Margaret’s Hospital, Spring Valley, Illinois where she worked closely with orthopedists and physicians providing management of pre and post-operative orthopedic conditions including total hips, knees, and shoulders including reverse total shoulders. She started the first aquatics program in the Illinois Valley area.
Dr. Blocki’s opened her own private practice United Physical Therapy, LLC in Peru, Illinois where she practiced for nearly 15 years developing a well-known practice for lymphedema and breast cancer related impairments. She became a certified garment fitter for compression garments and utilizes those skills to provide the most efficient and comfortable fit for management of swelling disorders. In 2013, Dr. Blocki founded Pink Ribbon Club – a hybrid support group for cancer survivors meeting monthly and providing education and peer support for self-advocacy. Due to popularity and community support, Pink Ribbon Club grew and became a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization.
Dr. Blocki’s passion for cancer patients led her to the UW Cancer Center at ProHealth, Pewaukee, Wisconsin just outside of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She became a Cancer Rehabilitation Specialist managing complex cancer patients’ impairments including pain, weakness, and chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy balance deficits. She has experience in the successful management of breast reconstruction, lymph node transplant and lympho-venous bypass surgeries, axillary web-syndrome, lymphedema and pain.
