Dr. James Kaemerer, PT, DPT, ATC graduated from Elmhurst College in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training. While earning his undergraduate degree he worked with a variety of high school, university level, and semi-professional athletes in the Chicagoland area. He received his Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2005 from Midwestern University.
Throughout Dr. Kaemerer’s career he has been developing not only his clinical skills but also his leadership skills. He was the Manager of an outpatient orthopedic Physical and Occupational Therapy clinic working side by side with the Orthopedic Department for one of the largest medical groups in Illinois. He further enhanced his leadership as a Senior Director and Multisite Director for outpatient orthopedic Physical Therapy companies in the Chicagoland area.
Clinically, Dr. Kaemerer developed a passion and strong skill set for creating individualized, custom rehabilitation programs for athletes of all ages, non-athletes focused on returning to daily activities, work-related rehabilitation, pediatrics over the age of five years, and geriatrics. He understands the importance of a team approach working closely with patients, patient’s physicians, parents, coaches, and athletic trainers.
Having been an ACL reconstruction patient himself, Dr. Kaemerer has a vested interest and talent rehabilitating upper and lower extremity biomechanical dysfunction. He served in the lead role in implementing an evidence-based ACL rehabilitation and prevention program to a wide range of athletes.
Dr. Kaemerer has also taken a lead role in an operative and non-operative hip rehabilitation program, and reviewed journals with colleagues as well as nationally recognized hip surgeons in the Chicagoland area. He also has a special interest developing creative programs to appropriately transition return to sport and return to work.
Dr. Kaemerer believes strongly in not only developing a well-rounded rehabilitation program, but also emphasizes patient education throughout the plan of care. He provides one-on-one care to all of his patients including a variety of manual therapy techniques. Dr. Kaemerer is also certified in ASTYM and is a certified Athletic Trainer.
In his spare time, Dr. Kaemerer enjoys spending quality time with his wife and four children, working out, coaching his kids’ sports, and participating in church activities. Many times you will find him volunteering at community events.
